Celebrated the 6th International Day of Yoga on 21 June, 2020

The Consulate General of India in Jaffna celebrated the 6th International Day of Yoga on 21 June, 2020 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs, Northern Provincial Council at the Education Ministry Grounds, Chemmany Road, Nallur, Jaffna from 08.00-09.00 AM.

The programme began with the screening of a message of Shri Narendra Modi, His Excellency Prime Minister of India and a documentary “Spirit of Yoga”.  Mr.L.Ilaangovan, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs presided over the function in which Consul General Hon.S.Balachandran addressed the gathering as the Chief Guest.

Yoga Instructor Mr. Suriyakumar demonstrated “Yoga Asanas” on stage which was followed and performed by over 100 Government officials and Students, maintaining social distancing norms.

The Consul General gave away prizes to the following students who won the essay and drawing competitions conducted by the Dept. of Cultural Affairs on behalf of the Consulate in connection with the International Day of Yoga:

Essay Competition

(i) Ms. Amsaagini Sivarasakurukal, J / Puttalai Maha Vidyalayam - First Prize - LKR 10,000

(ii) Mr. Paranitharan Sanujan, Saravanai Nageshwari Maha Vidyalayam - Second Prize -LKR 7,500

(iii) Mr. Jeffrey Janujan, St. Hentry Arasa College - Third Prize - LKR 5,000

Drawing Competition

(i) Mr. Jayatheepan Pranab, Jaffna Hartley College - First Prize - LKR 10,000

(ii) Ms. Tharmalingam Abirami, Sandilipay Hindu College - Second Prize -LKR 7,500

(iii) Ms. R.Kirusanthi, Jaffna Karampon Little Bush Vidyalayam -Third Prize - LKR 5,000

 

A consolation prize of LKR 1,000 each has also been given away to 39 other participants of these competitions.

 

The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. Sujeeva Sivathas, Director of Cultural Affairs, NP.
